Workshops
Your 1-2-1 half-day workshops with professional photographer Ian are offered throughout the year at a time to suit you with the session structured around what you want to learn this may also include some post processing techniques to help get the most out of your images, The main aim of this workshop is to capture a wonderful Cornish sunrise but obviously we cannot predict the weather, or guarantee a perfect sunrise, but we will always try our best ! They also mean the day is generally not as long, especially when combined with travel both before and after the workshop. A half day one to one workshop shoot lasts approximately 4 to 5 hours, sometimes longer depending on the lighting conditions and distance travelled.
Times of sunrise will depend on what time of year you book the workshop so feel free to contact me before hand to get an idea of times.
I can offer these classes to a maximum of 3 people at anyone time as to maximise your learning experience.
Ian has been running personalised one-to-one tuition for a few years now for photographers keen to improve their photographic skills.
The training will be geared to you, whether you're an experienced photographer or a complete beginner.
Whether you don't enjoy group learning, or simply feel you would benefit more from individual attention, Ian will tailor a day to your individual requirements. Some people simply require a guide to lead them to locations and be on hand for advice when needed. It's up to you.
Porthcurno, St Michael's Mount and Porthleven Harbour are just a few of the stunning locations we may visit.

Beginner's Photography Workshop
Have you recently received a camera and are confused by all the features it has to offer? Have you had a camera for a little while now, and are struggling to get out of the 'P'/Auto mode? Are you fairly new to photography, however would like to be able to take better photographs, and get the best out of you camera? If the answer is yes to any of these, then read on...
Ian will be offering beginners photography workshops within a 30 mile radius of Penzance, which includes areas such as Landsend, St Ives, Porthleven and Marazion (St Michaels Mount).
As each customer will be of a different knowledge level, there is no set itinerary, however during the course of the day we will cover areas such as composition, aperture, exposure, and understanding various features of your camera; helping you to get the best out of it.
There is a choice of two workshops, with the first being half day 5 hours long, and the second being a full day 8 hours long. The workshop can be started in the comfort of your home, where we can discuss the basic functions of the camera, before heading out in to the field to put things in to practice, or we can simply arrange to meet somewhere in the great outdoors and start from there. For the full day workshop we will have a break for 1 hour in the middle of the day to get some lunch and review some of the images already captured.
When you book a workshop with us, we will have a pre-workshop chat with you to find out your level of ability, and discuss what it is you wish to get out of the workshop. This way we can tailor the workshop to suit your specific needs.
If you are not a 'beginner', however would like to learn some new areas/techniques of photography, then please get in touch and we can discuss your requirements.
Ian also promotes the Vanguard brand which enables him to offer his workshop clients a 20% discount off any Vanguard product.

This course covers both the technical and creative skills needed to make rewarding long exposure photographs. You will quickly develop knowledge for the impact of the different strength neutral density filters have on the image, and then combine this with an understanding of the impact of varying shutter speeds. It can be the less long exposures, of a few seconds rather than minutes, that often create the most satisfying images and lead to prints that have a more satisfying tonal range, especially in black and white.
How fit do I need to be
We'll not be climbing mountains. Most of the walks to locations are short and on the flat, although some of the places we visit are away from the main paths and sometimes this means the terrain will be uneven or boggy and occasionally uphill.
Why Choose This Workshop
The group size is never more than three photographers, whereas other courses, workshops, and tours often have many more. This smaller group size means you will receive more personal tuition out on location, plus we can visit more varied locations and have more elbow room when we get there. At the location you'll not line up to take the same photograph as the people standing next to you; instead, you'll be encouraged and shown how to develop your own creative style and make photographs that are unique to you.
During our time together I work as hard as I can to create a unique, fun, and inspiring experience, while also providing photographers with a structured framework for instruction and learning. This means you will learn as much as possible during the course and leave feeling that you have developed significantly both your vision and the creative style of your photography.
