This course covers both the technical and creative skills needed to make rewarding long exposure photographs. You will quickly develop knowledge for the impact of the different strength neutral density filters have on the image,  and then combine this with an understanding of the impact of varying shutter speeds. It can be the less long exposures, of a few seconds rather than minutes, that often create the most satisfying images and lead to prints that have a more satisfying tonal range, especially in black and white.

How fit do I need to be

We'll not be climbing mountains. Most of the walks to locations are short and on the flat, although some of the places we visit are away from the main paths and sometimes this means the terrain will be uneven or boggy and occasionally uphill.

Why Choose This Workshop

The group size is never more than three photographers, whereas other courses, workshops, and tours often have many more. This smaller group size means you will receive more personal tuition out on location, plus we can visit more varied locations and have more elbow room when we get there. At the location you'll not line up to take the same photograph as the people standing next to you; instead, you'll be encouraged and shown how to develop your own creative style and make photographs that are unique to you.

During our time together I work as hard as I can to create a unique, fun, and inspiring experience, while also providing photographers with a structured framework for instruction and learning. This means you will learn as much as possible during the course and leave feeling that you have developed significantly both your vision and the creative style of your photography.

St Michael's Mount, Botallack Tin Mines, Landsend, and the iconic Porth Nanven are just a few of the stunning locations we may visit.

"I would recommend you have the following with you on the day"

THIS IS ONLY A GUIDELINE:

CAMERA - A digital SLR is preferable but we may also be able to work creatively if you have a good ‘bridge’ camera. If in doubt I suggest you contact me and we can discuss.

TRIPOD – For effective and creative landscape photography you really need one of these. I carry spare tripods for those who don't own one.

SHUTTER RELEASE CABLE - These are quite cheap to purchase if you don’t already have one and are definitely a good idea as they lessen the chance of camera shake and blurred photo’s.

DIGITAL MEMORY CARDS – Ensure you have a high capacity memory card or a good supply of smaller ones!!

BATTERIES - you really don't want to run out – always have a spare if possible!

CAMERA BAG – We may be walking for a mile or two so a comfortable camera bag that is easy to carry is a good idea!

FILTERS – Not a requirement but something we could look at before you buy. I have filters at hand for you to try.

LAPTOP – We will usually have some opportunity during the workshop to look at some ‘post processing’ in lightroom so it would be a good idea to bring you laptop if you have one.

WATERPROOFS, GOOD WALKING BOOTS, WELLINGTON'S
